2nd Annual “Honouring Indigenous Students” Powwow
The First Nations, Métis & Inuit Student Association (FNMISA) is hosting our 2nd Annual “Honouring Indigenous Students” Powwow on April 20, 2024, in the West Gym at Simon Fraser University, and we invite you to be part of this monumental event. This event is held to celebrate the end of the school year and honour Indigenous students, past and present. Our intention is to create a positive space on campus for representation and create opportunities for community connection. This intertribal event will be an opportunity for all to participate, interact, and learn more about the depth and beauty of Indigenous communities and cultures. All the organizing of this event is done by student volunteers.
In 2023, we attracted over 1,000 visitors, over 100 registered dancers, hosted 5 drum groups, 40 vendors, and more than 35 volunteers!
More details will be shared in the future so stay tuned and check back at this webpage, or reach out to the Powwow Committee at powwow@fnmisa.ca to get direct email updates!
Also, if you would like to be a part of this event as either a dancer, singer, sponsor, vendor, volunteer, or in any other capacity, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Powwow Committee at powwow@fnmisa.ca and we will be happy to be in touch with you.

Interested in becoming a sponsor?
As a student-led organization, we rely on the generosity of the community to help make our powwow a success. We are currently seeking sponsors to cover the expenses associated with putting on the event, as well as in-kind donations to be used in our raffle or to support the dancers, singers, and elders in attendance. Click here to get a copy of the sponsorship letter and form.
Among other things, we are offering our sponsors promotional benefits, opportunity to name specific dance categories and specials, and there are also limited tables available for organizations and companies on the day of the event.
We hope that you will consider making a contribution to our powwow, as your donation will make a significant impact in helping us to celebrate Indigenous culture, nurture community relationships, and build safer spaces for future generations of Indigenous students on campus. Hiy-hiy.
